What is an NBA Blowout?
A Blowout occurs when a team surpasses the opponent by a wide margin, leading them to give up early on any chances of a comeback.
In the NBA, a blowout can be considered, for example, when a team has a lead of over 12-14 points in the last minutes of the 4th quarter, causing the opponent to surrender early, making conceding choices such as replacing starters and adopting a less aggressive game.

The most largest victory in NBA history was achieved by the Memphis Grizzlies against the Oklahoma City Thunder on the night of December 3, 2021, with a margin of 73 points (final score 152-79).
The Grizzlies, leading by a whopping 36 points at halftime, did not stop, and at the final buzzer, they rewrote NBA history with a record gap.
Taylor Jenkins’ team closed the game with 9 players in double digits, and all 12 on the roster scored; Jaren Jackson Jr. led the scoreboard with 27 points.
A historic night for the Grizzlies, who after 30 years, write their name at the top of the NBA records chart.
Honorable Mention
The second most lopsided victory in NBA history was accomplished by the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Miami Heat in 1991, with a margin of 68 points (final score 148-80).
In the year of Michael Jordan’s first championship with the Bulls, on the night of December 17, one team managed to take the stage of American basketball history; in fact, that Cavs-Heat game is destined to be remembered forever.
A night when everything went exactly as it should for the Ohio team, with 8 players in double digits (including Brad Daugherty, the man on the cover) and with opponents ending the game with a 35% shooting percentage.
Despite the two teams being polar opposites on that occasion, there is one thing that unites them. In fact, once they reached the playoffs, both crashed against the Chicago wall; Miami in the first round and Cleveland in the conference finals.
On the night of October 13, 2021, during the Mavericks vs. Hornets clash, the record for the second-largest blowout in history was matched. The game ended with a score of 127-59, equaling the 68-point gap set by the Cavs thirty years earlier.
